A Dark Portrait of Life Painted in Color

Le dernier chasseur

Le dernier chasseur (The Last Hunter) is available on all major music services (please preview several below). This EP was ultimately influenced by the very glacier glasses I purchased while searching for a way to create a unique look among the other electronic musicians out there. I wanted to step into another character while both creating and one day performing this music. And thus Le dernier chasseur was born.

But let me step back a second to talk about how PennNY was born. During my time living in Williamsport, PA I would frequently head up to the Corning, NY and Binghamton, NY areas for rock and metal shows. For these road trips, I’d curate these electronic music playlists to help stay awake on the late-night drives back. Not thinking much about it back then, but fast-forward nearly a decade later I was doing the same thing while dating a girl in southern NY. But this time, it got me thinking what if I could create electronic music for someone else to do the same thing I was doing? The idea seemed perfect and the idea for PennNY was born (pronounced like the currency, penny). I wanted to play off of the whole penny thing, so I began searching online for penny-related items, colors, etc. While searching on Amazon, I stumbled on an Abe Lincoln costume with him wearing American themed shades. I attempted to purchase it thinking that would be a perfect hipster thing to wear as my DJ outfit. Fortunately, my credit card was maxed out and the order didn’t go through. This got me to take a second look and reconsider. From here, I searched out for penny colored glasses that wouldn’t look so damn cheap. Enter the Julbo glacier glasses. Certainly, penny colored, and certainly not cheap, these glasses were purchased upon my next paycheck. Okay, now we’re all caught up to the introduction

While doing research on the glasses I’d just dropped nearly $200 on, I was interested to learn about the company’s history, and it’s founder Jules Baud. It was started at the request of crystal hunters in the French Alps wanting to protect their eyes from the gleaming sun. I wanted to get my head around what the must have been like in the late 19th century, which is what I attempted to do with Le dernier chasseur. I hope you enjoy this journey to the highest summit of the Alps in search of crystals with me.
