This track is particularly special to me for a few reasons. Firstly, I recently “lost” everything from the primary storage device I used for my music.
“Early this morning (approx. 2 AM), I tripped over my Seagate external hard drive cable after turning out the lights in my studio. It fell about 2-1/2 feet onto my wood floor. Needless to say it has the “beeping of death”, and it freezes my CPU when trying to run any sort of data recovery. I likely lost everything on it, which included roughly 2-years worth of music I’ve written (unreleased), hundreds of photos (unreleased), short story/novel ideas, and dozens of other creative and business ideas saved in master spreadsheets. 100’s of man hours, gone. Waking up today, however, I realized this may have been the best thing to have happened to me creatively. Today I’m starting back at zero. It made me realize that we all have the same opportunity to start again at zero each and every day if we need to. I’m considering this my “Leonardo painting burning day”, and I’m taking my best foot forward. P.S. I’ve also learned to backup my shit : ) #alwaysstaypositive”
This song was my first attempt at “keeping my eyes wide open”, so to speak. This for me meant going back to why I even began writing music in the first place. It was a chance to give back to those who got me through some of the most difficult times of my life. I’d have ended up on the street (or worse) had it not been for music.
I still recall the first albums I had ever purchased with my own money which I made by picking out weeds in the gardens of the owner of a small nursery. At one point I counted nearly 100 mosquito bites on me, but that’s another story for another time and place. Anyway, my first three album purchases were Will Smith – Big Willie Style, 98 Degrees – 98 degrees and Rising, and Breaking Benjamin – Saturate. Can you guess which album had the greatest impact on me musically?
But I digress…It’s time I start really contributing to the craft that has helped countless others. Here’s to keeping your eyes wide open.
I’m a father, musician, artist, writer, photographer, designer, and storyteller – among other things. I graduated from Central Columbia High School in 2006, and from Pennsylvania College of Technology in 2008. I’ve worked primarily as a CAD Design Technician since graduating, holding a couple of odd jobs in-between employment in my field of study. I’ve lived in just about every region of Pennsylvania, having grown up in Berwick, my secondary education held in Williamsport, and then moving for work back to Williamsport, then to Jersey Shore, to Lebanon, and finally to Cornwall, where I live in my home with my son, part-time.
